PCEC's Livingston Loves Trees Program
PCEC's Livingston Loves Trees program started in 2021, and provides and plants free trees for Livingston residents willing to adopt, water, and care for the tree. Montana-hardy trees are given away on a first-come, first-served basis by neighborhood. These are larger diameter trees that, combined with planting, are valued between $500-$700. Thanks to generous donors, grants and an incredibly committed team of volunteers, we aim to add 1,000 trees to Livingston's community forest in the next decade.
To be considered for a free tree, you must:
- Reside in the City of Livingston.
- Have adequate space for a tree in your boulevard, a public space in your neighborhood, or in your front yard if you do not have a boulevard – spaces where it can be enjoyed by others.
- Make a multiple-year commitment to watering and caring for the tree. In the first three years, your young tree will require 10-20 gallons of water per week, watered at 2-3 different times per week depending on soil type, until the root system establishes. Mature trees will also need to be watered once a week when soil is dry.
- Note: This commitment remains in effect even if the property is sold or managed by renters or a rental company.
- Coordinate with Tree Team volunteers on a planting location, date, and the City permit process.
Trees are given away in the order in which the application is received and are planted every May. If you qualify but do not receive a tree this year, you will be automatically rolled onto next year's waiting list. We run out of trees every year, so get your application in as early as possible.
