Help Park County Prepare for a Strong Future!
Park County developed the proposed Conflict Mitigation Regulation in response to public demand asking for greater predictability and local control in protecting Park County’s water and wildlife, local economy, and rural landscape from industrial development. The regulation follows a very standard permitting process used in numerous jurisdictions throughout Montana, typically called conditional use permits.
In short, it would establish a permitting system that gives the public an opportunity to provide input on new industrial and commercial projects in a public forum. It does not prohibit any type of development, it simply provides an opportunity for local review to ensure that any new development doesn't detrimentally impact our water resources, our roads, and our rural way of life. Conditional use permits are a fair, transparent, and standard planning tool used throughout the country.
Join us in asking Park County to work towards proactive planning solutions.
Dear Park County Commission, Staff, and Board Members,
Thank you for working on behalf of our community to find local solutions to growth and development in our backyard. We understand that there are no simple solutions. We appreciate you taking the time to listen to public comments and concerns, and we ask you to continue that effort on conflict mitigation and other planning tools. As residents, we have seen expansive growth over the past several years. We have rolled up our sleeves and worked to prevent bad ideas -- gold mines, asphalt plans, tire dumps, and more. We have a strong economy that depends on tourism and agriculture. We encourage you to look for solutions, and provide opportunities for more local control of development that threatens our water, our open lands, our night sky, and our way of life. We believe that conflict mitigation is a step in the right direction. We hope that you take the time to incorporate public comments and work through a new and improved draft. Thank you for your hard work on our behalf.
Sincerely,
Thank You for Showing Your Support!
We'll send you a confirmation email with a few additional actions you can take shortly.
This petition is just one way to demonstrate your support. Park County leadership needs to hear that our community supports them moving forward with pro-active planning efforts. Park County will continue to accept public comments on the Conflict Mitigation proposal during the two-month pause.
Thank you again for your support. In the past few years we've challenged several ill-conceived industrial developments with your help. Until we have proper controls and predictable public processes in place, battles against large-scale development will continue far into our future. Conflict Mitigation is a permitting tool we need in Park County.
Please consider forwarding the petition to your friends and neighbors.
